It was January of last year when Nintendo first announced its plans for an online subscription service. The initial launch was planned for summer but fell through once June hit and the date was then pushed back to this year. You will get the option of a 1, 3 and 12 month plan. Pricing in USD goes as 1 month for $3.99, 3 months for $7.99 and 12 months for $19.99.
Today Nintendo repeated in a Tweet that the online service will provide access to online play and save data cloud backup in compatible games and a growing library of NES titles with added online play. The executive managing officer of Nintendo, Shinya Takahashi, has stated that the online subscription service is just one component of a plan to diversify how games are played.
